Medieval Base Camp
Medieval Base Camp
Group Camp

In November, our Cubs enjoyed a medieval themed camp at the HQ. The Cubs designed medieval crests which were transposed onto tabbards for team games and, on Saturday, visited the Tower of London. Returning to base, the cubs were led in a campfire singalong by Caroline from Explorers.

On Sunday, the Cubs attended the Remembrance Day Parade in Old Isleworth along with other sections of the Group. The camp ended later that day with a game of medieval football (no rules except no punching, gouging or biting). The Cubs and their leaders went home muddy and exhausted.

Group Camp

Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts enjoyed an Easter camp at Lee’s Wood. Arriving on Friday afternoon, the Cubs walked the Nature Trail whilst the Scouts attended an Activity Course. A widegame, dinner and a quiz completed the day. On Saturday we went to Bury Lake Young Mariners for water activities which included sailing, rowing & zorbing. Our Explorer Scouts got to drive the Rescue Boat. Dinner went down well and a widegame ended the day. Sunday started with a ‘Scouts Own’, and then we did some work for the Campsite, which went towards the Partnership Award. An Easter Egg hunt ended the camp.

Kent International Jubilee

In July, our Scouts and Explorer Scouts spent a week under canvas at the Kent International Jamboree. 6000 Scouts and Guides from around the World joined the camp and took part in numerous activities and events. We dressed in pink, did a variety of water activities, adventurous challenges, scientific, craft and spiritual ones. We visited Chatham Docks, played on the swings and had fish and chips out. Bear Grills arrived by helicopter with David Walliams and after speaking to the crowd, played ‘under and over’. However, by far the most popular activity was meeting new friends. Our Leaders, Scouts and Explorers all had a fantastic week, so good that nobody wanted to come home.

In August, Legends ESU attended a GLMW County trip to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland. The trip lasted 10 days and threw many eventful yet challenging tasks at us. Activities included: white water rafting, a trip to Bern, hiking in the mountains and county discos, which gave us the opportunity to meet to scouts from around the world. We shared all duties, including cooking, recycling and general camp welfare. We arrived back at terminal 1 still talking to each other and laughing at all of the in jokes that had been made during the trip. Hopefully we will get to go to Kandersteg again in 2017 as leaders.

Beavers at Phasel's Wood

In June, our Beavers enjoyed a fun packed day at Phasel’s Wood scout campsite. The Beavers took part in a range of adventure activities including zorbing, climbing and the famous Phasel’s Wood Cresta run.

The Cub section has had a change of leadership. Neil Everett has taken over from Brian Mitten as Akela. We’d like to wish Neil every success in his new role and thank Brian for his continued support.

Group AGM - Our 83rd!
Bonfire Night

We held our 83rd Annual General Meeting in November. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Group to reflect on another successful year and to recognise some outstanding contributions from our members, leaders and helpers.

On Saturday 2nd November 3rd Osterley hosted their annual Fireworks Party. Over 300 people attended the huge bonfire and the firework display organised by the 3rd Osterley WAGS and leaders from the 4th Hounslow Scout Group.

There are many moments in Scouting when leaders are proud of what they do and partake in. Remembrance day 2013 was one of them. The group took part in the Parade behind the marching band.

On Saturday 5th October, the Beaver Scouts visited London Zoo. We traveled to Regents Park on the tube. We spent a lovely day looking at the wide variety of animals and were lucky enough to see some of them being fed. Chesnut (Hannah) organised a fantastic day and the Beavers were wonderfully behaved. In short, it was a wonderful day spent by all.

We stood with other members of the Civic VIP, forces, uniformed public services  plus members of other youth organisations to lay our wreaths. All the young people were so well behaved.

Everyone had a fabulous time and were very generous in raising funds for the group. A big THANK YOU to those that gave up their time to support the event.

What a busy year, I can’t believe it is AGM time again. The group has remained as popular with over 125 children taking part in varied and exciting programs on a weekly basis.

The year has seen the whole group going to Phasel’s Wood for district camp and each section hosting camps and day activities of their own. I was also invited to cub camp, that was so exciting, thank you cubs!  The WAGS organized Quiz night that was a sell out and a Fireworks eve that had over 300 people attend. Finally the HQ had some time spent on the upkeep with various parents, leaders and supporters of 3rd Osterley painting and clearing the grounds.

I would like to say a special thank-you to Claire Baker who agreed to be AGSL and who has provided me with continuous support in my first year as GSL. I would also like to thank Mick Heath and the members of the executive committee who have supported me in my new role. And finally, a big THANK YOU to all of the Group’s helpers and leaders. This is not only for the weekly sectional meetings but also for when they have completed training and attended extra meetings.

Let’s hope next year will be just as fantastic!
